Mercyhurst Welcomes Coach Overhiser as its new Head Wrestling Coach

On June 10th, 2025, Mercyhurst University announced the addition of Head Men’s Wrestling Coach Jimmy Overhiser. Coach Overhiser stated that “Merychurst wrestlers can expect a different experience than other schools. We’re going to develop the entire student-athlete, recognizing that God is number one in our lives.” He also continued with, “We will pursue our dreams on and off the mat with everything we have. We will develop God fearing, good men, with great career prospects.” Jimmy’s passion for building quality student-athletes certainly goes without saying.

Coach Overhiser comes to Mercyhurst from Drexel University, where he helped guide the Dragons to their highest conference finish in their program’s history. When asked if his dream was always to pursue a head coaching role, Coach said: “It’s always a dream to get to the top of your profession, and head coaching is the pinnacle. However, I was never looking too far ahead, I was just always excited to build and grow whatever program I was a part of.” Jimmy then went on to say that “the perfect school opened up and I had to seize the opportunity.”

Jimmy has previous coaching stints at Army West Point and Reinhardt University (where he developed the program's ever National Champion). However, Coach’s educational background is just as impressive as his coaching resume. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell in Architecture, where he also wrestled for four years, and is currently in the process of receiving his masters in Educational Administration at Missouri Valley College.

Coach Overhiser is a native of Lansing High School, where he graduated as a state champion in 2015. Prior to that, Jimmy was a National Prep All-American for Wyoming Seminary.

Head Coach Jimmy Overhiser comes to Mercyhurst University with a commitment to the classroom, dedication to recruiting operations, and extensive knowledge within the sport of wrestling. His coaching passion and vision are the qualities that Mercyhurst needs while transitioning into the Division One world of wrestling and to continue to carry on the legacy that Coach Mike Wehler left with.
